The boat ride is 15 minutes. That's it. While everyone else is heading to the Rosario Islands for a 45-minute crossing, savvy travelers are already on Tierra Bomba — sipping a welcome cocktail, feet in the sand, with views of Cartagena's skyline across the water.

Tierra Bomba is Cartagena's closest island, and it has quietly built one of the most impressive collections of beach clubs in Colombia. From ultra-luxury resort experiences to boho wellness retreats and fusion cuisine that stays open until 11pm — this island delivers more variety than most travelers expect.

What Nobody Tells You About Tierra Bomba

Most Tierra Bomba beach clubs charge no national park fee and no dock fee — unlike the Rosario Islands where you pay COP $31,500 (~$8 USD) + COP $8,800 (~$2 USD) in cash at the pier before even boarding. What you book is exactly what you pay.

The exception: Fénix and Eteka depart from Muelle La Bodeguita and apply a dock fee of COP $18,000 (~$4 USD) per person — still significantly less than the Rosario Islands total.

The water on the far side of the island — where the premium beach clubs are located — is significantly cleaner than the public beach near Punta Arena. If someone told you Tierra Bomba has murky water, they were probably at the wrong spot.

One more thing: the best Instagram shots on Tierra Bomba happen before 10am. After that, the sun is direct and the light changes. If photography matters to you, arrive on the first departure.

Two Departure Points — Verify Yours Before You Go

Tierra Bomba clubs depart from two different locations in Cartagena. We always keep departure details updated — but always confirm yours in your booking confirmation or ask us directly before heading out.

📍 Muelle La Bodeguita

In the Historic Center — walking distance from most walled city hotels. Easy to reach, no taxi needed from downtown.

Clubs: Fénix · Eteka

📍 Castillo Grande

Behind the Hospital de Bocagrande, in the Castillo Grande neighborhood. Approximately 10 minutes by taxi from Bocagrande hotels.

Clubs: Makani · Kabanna · Namasté · Palmarito

Important: At both locations you may find individuals offering private boat rides to your destination. Do not accept — every beach club includes round-trip boat transfer in the booking. Your club's staff will be waiting for you at the meet point with your name on the list.

The 6 Beach Clubs on Tierra Bomba — Honest Breakdown

1. Makani Luxury Beach Club — Best Overall · From $79

The most complete experience on the island. Makani was designed around the Japanese Wabi Sabi philosophy — natural materials, open spaces, architecture that integrates with the coastal landscape rather than competing with it. The result is a resort-style beach day that feels private even when it's full.

The largest pool on Tierra Bomba is here. So is the only full spa. The food is fresh, the service is attentive, and the design is the kind that makes you want to stay past the return boat. Family-friendly with quiet adults-only zones — the rare club that works for every travel style.

Eteka is what happens when someone builds a beach club for travelers who are done with beach clubs. The vibe is almost jungle — dense vegetation, outdoor cinema, spa, intimate dining. Independent travel guides consistently call it a boho sanctuary, and the food is rated as the most carefully prepared on the island.

Eteka also offers overnight stays — ideal if you want to extend the experience into the next morning.

Over 218,000 Instagram followers didn't happen by accident — Fénix built a reputation on champeta dance classes, live DJ sets, signature paella, and an atmosphere that's exclusive without being pretentious.

Pet-friendly. Vegan options. Freshwater pool. Views of the Cartagena skyline across the bay. And an exclusive sunset plan — arrive in the afternoon and watch the sun go down over the city from the island. One of the most requested experiences on Tierra Bomba.

Most clubs also offer more affordable rates on earlier departures, so flexibility works in your favor either way.

Step 2

Some clubs add open bar, spa access, or yoga — depending on the plan you select. Always confirm the exact inclusions when booking.

Freshwater. All beach clubs on Tierra Bomba with pools — including Fénix, Makani, Kabanna, and Namasté — have freshwater pools. This makes them ideal for alternating between the sea and the pool throughout the day.

In that case, you can reschedule at no cost or request a full refund. Our cancellation policy covers weather-related interruptions.

Absolutely. All Tierra Bomba clubs accept individual and couple bookings. You don't need a minimum group size. The boat will have other guests, but your experience at the club is fully individual — your lounger, your lunch, your pace.
