Pirata Island Adventure: Rosario Islands Day Tour
Isla del Pirata Cartagena — Raw, Natural, and One of the Best Snorkeling Spots in the Rosario Islands
Escape mass tourism and discover Isla del Pirata — one of the most authentic and tranquil destinations in the Rosario Islands National Natural Park. Just 45 minutes by speedboat from Cartagena, this small coral island offers crystal-clear waters, a protected reef system, and a rustic Caribbean atmosphere designed for relaxation and nature lovers.
This is not a polished party beach club. Isla del Pirata Cartagena is a more natural Rosario Islands experience — ideal for travelers who care more about water clarity, snorkeling, and peaceful surroundings than staged aesthetics. Surrounded by a protected reef, the water here is genuinely clearer than most party-focused islands. Swim, snorkel, disconnect, and experience the Rosario Islands the way they were meant to be.
Two experience options: Just Beach for a calm nature-focused day with traditional Caribbean lunch included, or the Open Bar Option for those who want the same natural setting with unlimited cocktails from 10 AM to 2 PM. Both include round-trip speedboat, bilingual guide, and access to one of the best snorkeling environments near Cartagena.

- Authentic and tranquil island setting inside the Rosario Islands National Natural Park — no crowds, no vendors, no noise
- More natural and peaceful than polished party-style beach clubs — the real Caribbean, not a staged version of it
- Traditional Caribbean lunch included in both plans — fried fish or chicken, coconut rice, plantains, salad
- Open bar upgrade available for guests who want a more social tone without leaving the natural setting
- Optional Oceanarium transfer included for families with children
- Bilingual guide assistance included · Wi-Fi available on the island

Is Isla del Pirata a party island?
No — Isla del Pirata Cartagena is much more natural and peaceful than party-focused islands. The Just Beach plan keeps it completely calm and nature-focused. The Open Bar option adds a more social tone with 4 hours of cocktails, but even then the atmosphere stays relaxed compared to places like Bora Bora or IBBIZA. If you want a genuine natural Caribbean experience with excellent snorkeling — this is your island.
Is snorkeling included at Isla del Pirata?
Snorkeling equipment is not included by default but is available for rent directly on the island. Isla del Pirata is one of the best snorkeling environments near Cartagena — the protected reef system around the island offers genuinely better water clarity than most party-focused islands. The Open Bar plan also includes snorkel masks. Bring a few extra dollars for equipment rental if you're on the Just Beach plan — it's worth it.
Is Isla del Pirata a hotel or a day pass?
Hotel Isla del Pirata operates as both — it has accommodation on the island and a day pass (pasadía) experience open to visitors. The experience we sell through Cartagena Day Tours is the day pass: you arrive by speedboat in the morning, enjoy the island all day, and return to Cartagena in the afternoon. If you're interested in overnight stays at Isla del Pirata, contact us for options.
What's the difference between Just Beach and Open Bar?
Both plans at Isla del Pirata Cartagena include round-trip speedboat, welcome cocktail, Caribbean lunch, beach access, bilingual guide, and optional Oceanarium transfer. The Open Bar Option adds a 4-hour open bar (10 AM–2 PM) with a full cocktail selection (Coco Loco, Mojito, Margarita, Piña Colada, Caipirinha, plus spirits), 5 à la carte lunch options instead of 3, access to lounge zones and inflatable floats, and snorkel masks included.
What are the mandatory dock fees?
All guests pay two mandatory fees in cash at the pier: the Rosario Islands National Park entrance fee (COP 31,500 ≈ USD 8) and maritime insurance (COP 8,500 ≈ USD 2). Bring approximately USD 10 in cash per person — no card payment at the dock.
What's the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 24 hours before departure — note this is 24 hours, shorter than the standard 72-hour policy on most CDT products. No refund within 24 hours. If the tour is cancelled due to unsafe sea conditions or official DIMAR port closure, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no charge. Light rain does not cancel the tour.

One of the most authentic reef areas for snorkeling near Cartagena. The water clarity at Isla del Pirata is genuinely better than most party-focused islands — less polished, more natural. That's the charm. If you care about what's under the water more than what the beach looks like on Instagram, this is your island. Bring cash for the park fee (~USD 10) and a few extra dollars for snorkel gear rental — it's worth every peso.
