Pao Pao Beach Club Cartagena — Nature, Reefs & the Rosario Islands the Way They Were Meant to Be

Pao Pao Beach Club is one of the most nature-forward beach experiences in the Rosario Islands — a place where mangroves, crystal-clear water, and sea birds are as much a part of the day as the sun lounger and the Caribbean lunch. Whether you've been searching for Pao Pao Cartagena, the pau pau beach experience, or simply the best nature-focused beach club in the Rosario Islands, this is it. Located inside the Rosario Islands National Natural Park, Pao Pao Beach Club Cartagena offers a calmer, more connected alternative to the high-energy clubs in the archipelago.

This is the right choice for travelers who want to snorkel in protected reefs, explore mangrove areas by kayak, and experience the Rosario Island beach club scene the way it was meant to be — slowly, with intention, surrounded by nature. Pao Pao is also home to an on-site restaurant and accommodation, making it one of the few full-service destinations in the islands.

Where exactly is Pao Pao Beach Club in Cartagena?

Pao Pao Cartagena is located inside the Rosario Islands National Natural Park — about 45 minutes by speedboat from La Bodeguita Pier in Cartagena, Colombia. It sits in one of the most ecologically protected areas of the Colombian Caribbean, surrounded by mangroves and coral reefs.

Is Pao Pao just a beach club or does it have a hotel and restaurant too?

Pao Pao Hotel & Restaurant is the full property — it includes overnight accommodation, a restaurant, and bar, in addition to the day pass beach club experience. The day pass we sell through Cartagena Day Tours gives you full access to the beach, pool, reefs, kayaks, and lunch without an overnight stay. Contact us if you're interested in overnight options at the property.

How is Pao Pao Beach Club different from Bora Bora?

Both are in the Rosario Islands and share the same ownership group, but the experience is completely different. Pao Pao Beach Club is nature-first — calm, organized, with reef snorkeling and mangrove kayaking as the main activities. Bora Bora is adults-only (18+), DJ-driven, and built for a social party atmosphere. If you want nature and tranquility, choose Pao Pao. If you want music and energy, choose Bora Bora.

Is Pao Pao good for snorkeling?

Yes — it's one of the best snorkeling options among all the beach clubs in the Rosario Islands. The club sits inside a protected reef zone of the National Natural Park, which means calmer, cleaner water and healthier coral compared to more built-up areas of the archipelago. Snorkeling access is included in the day pass; gear is available to rent on-site.

What is the minimum age for Pao Pao Beach Club?

Pao Pao is open to guests aged 12 and up. It's a great option for teens and older children who are comfortable in the water and interested in snorkeling or kayaking. For families with younger children, we recommend Isla del Sol or Hotel El Encanto — both welcome all ages.

What are the mandatory dock fees and why aren't they included?

All guests must pay two fees in cash at the pier before boarding: the Rosario Islands National Park entrance fee (COP 31,500 ≈ USD 8) and maritime insurance (COP 8,800 ≈ USD 2). These are government-mandated fees that cannot be pre-paid or bundled. Bring cash — no card payment at the pier and the ATM there is unreliable.

What's the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 72 hours before departure. No refund for cancellations within 72 hours. If the tour is cancelled due to unsafe sea conditions, you'll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no charge.

Is Pao Pao the same as "pau pau beach"?

Yes — pau pau beach is a common alternate spelling travelers use when searching for Pao Pao Cartagena. It's the same place: Pao Pao Beach Club in the Rosario Islands, Colombia.

Booking conditions
  • Full payment required at time of booking
  • Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 72 hours before departure

Antoni's tip — your Cartagena insider

If snorkeling is the main reason you're going, arrive early and head straight to the reef area before the midday sun reduces underwater visibility. The mangrove kayak tour is worth doing in the morning when the water is calmer and the birds are most active. Pao Pao is also the first stop on the Top 3 Islands Tour — if you want to see more of the archipelago in one day, that's the route to take.
