Which Makani plan should I choose?

If you're visiting Makani Beach Club Cartagena for the first time — choose Live + Lunch. It's the most sold plan, the best value, and the one that consistently earns 5-star reviews. The gourmet food alone is worth the upgrade over Live. If you're a couple celebrating something — ELUA, which includes spa massage for two, cocktails, and lunch. If you're a family with kids who just want pool and beach access — Live is perfectly fine.

Is Makani worth it compared to the Rosario Islands?

Makani Luxury Wanderlust is a different category of experience from the Rosario Islands beach clubs. The Rosario Islands offer more natural Caribbean scenery and a wider variety of vibes (party, eco, family). Makani Cartagena offers resort-level infrastructure — 700m² pool, 5-star spa, gourmet kitchen — in 20 minutes and with no National Park fee. If you want nature and islands, go Rosario. If you want the best facilities and service closest to Cartagena, Makani is the answer.

Is there a dock fee or National Park fee at Makani?

There is no National Park fee — Makani Beach Club is on Tierra Bomba, which is not part of the Rosario Islands National Natural Park. There is a standard dock tax of 18,000 COP per person (approx. 6 USD), paid in cash when entering the Muelle de la Bodeguita through Gate 1. Bring cash for this — card payment is not available at the pier entrance.

Where does the boat to Makani depart from?

Departures are from the Muelle de la Bodeguita, Gate 1, in Cartagena's Historic Center. It's walking distance from most old-town hotels and about 10 minutes by taxi from Bocagrande. Arrive 10–15 minutes before your slot with 18,000 COP per person in cash for the dock tax.

Is Makani Beach Club good for families with children?

Yes — Makani Luxury Beach Club is one of the few premium beach clubs near Cartagena that is fully family-friendly. There's a Kids Day Pass at a reduced rate, the pool is large and safe, and the overall atmosphere is polished and social without being overwhelming. The 20-minute boat ride is also significantly easier to manage with children than the 45–60 minute Rosario Islands crossing.

What is Zone Alaway vs Zone Kai?

Zone Alaway is the pool zone — centered around Makani's 700m² freshwater pool, the largest of any beach club near Cartagena, with a dedicated jacuzzi section. Zone Kai is the beachfront zone — direct sand and ocean access. Both are included in all plans; zone assignment is subject to availability. Specify your preference when you arrive at Makani.

Can I add horseback riding or a photographer?

Yes — through Cartagena Day Tours we can coordinate horseback riding on the island, private photographer, and drone footage. Contact us when booking and we'll arrange the details. These activities are not available through walk-in on the day — they need to be pre-arranged.

How far in advance should I book?

Regular season: 5–7 days ahead. High season and holidays: 2–3 weeks minimum. ELUA spa slots fill before beach spots — if you want the couples massage experience, book as early as possible. We confirm within 2 hours of booking.

What's the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 72 hours before departure. No refund within 72 hours. If the tour is cancelled due to unsafe sea conditions, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no charge.
