The Clubs Nobody Talks About — Antoni's Hidden Picks

Direct Answer

Three underrated clubs worth knowing: Luxury Beach Club (Rosario — premium without the waitlist), Rosario del Mar (authentic Caribbean hotel-style), and Isla del Pirata (raw nature, best snorkeling for the price).

The most-booked clubs get the most attention. But some of the best beach clubs near Cartagena are the ones most travelers scroll past. Here are three Antoni recommends when the popular options are full, or when travelers want something different.

Hidden Gem #1 — Rosario Islands Luxury Beach Club — From $119

Premium social experience with DJ, open bar, and curated service — without the same advance booking pressure as Bora Bora Beach Club. Consistently delivers a high-quality day for groups who want energy and organization. Adults from $119–$129, children from $79.

Book Luxury Beach Club →
Hidden Gem #2 — Rosario Islands Rosario del Mar — From $110

An island hotel that accepts day visitors. Warm local service, authentic coastal Colombian food and drink, and a calm that most beach clubs manufacture but Rosario del Mar simply has. Adult from $110–$143, children from $79. Perfect for travelers who want an authentic Caribbean day over a produced one.

Book Rosario del Mar →
Hidden Gem #3 — Rosario Islands Isla del Pirata — From $82

Raw, natural, uncrowded. One of the best snorkeling spots in the Rosario Islands at entry price. Just Beach from $82, Open Bar from $115. For travelers who want the turquoise water, not the Instagram moment.

Common Mistakes When Booking a Beach Club in Cartagena

Direct Answer

The most common mistakes: confusing the departure pier, arriving late, misreading the date format (Colombia uses DD/MM/YYYY), not bringing cash for pier fees and extras, and not reading what's included vs not included in the day pass.

Confusing the departure pier

Rosario Islands clubs depart from Muelle La Bodeguita in the Historic Center. Tierra Bomba clubs depart from Castillo Grande behind Hospital de Bocagrande — a completely different location. Your CDT confirmation always includes the exact meet point.

Arriving late to the pier

Rosario Islands boats depart 7:50–8:30 AM and don't wait. Arrive at least 20 minutes early to pay pier fees and find your gate. Set your alarm the night before and get your cash from a city ATM — not the pier ATM which has long queues and sometimes runs out.

Misreading the date format

Colombia uses DD/MM/YYYY — day first, then month. If your confirmation says 05/07/2026, that is July 5th — not May 7th. Always double-check your booking date before your trip and confirm the night before.

Not bringing cash

The Rosario Islands pier fee (~$10 USD) is cash only — no card, no exceptions. Bring COP 50,000+ per person from a city ATM the night before.

Bring extra for food and drink, snorkeling gear, and tips. The pier ATM runs out frequently. Exception: San Pedro de Majagua includes all fees — zero cash needed at the pier.

Not reading what's included and not included

Every day pass includes: boat transfer, welcome drink, sun lounger, Caribbean lunch, beach access. NOT included: pier fees (Rosario Islands), extra drinks, snorkeling gear rental, spa treatments, aquarium entrance, towels, tips (10% auto-added, not mandatory). CDT lists every inclusion and exclusion clearly on each product.

Antoni's Tip — Zero Surprises

When you book through CDT, your confirmation email includes the exact pier address, gate number, departure time, cash amounts needed, and what to bring. We've organized hundreds of island days and know exactly where things go wrong — so you don't have to find out on the morning of your trip.

Best Time to Visit — Seasonal Guide for Cartagena Beach Clubs

Direct Answer

Cartagena has warm sunny weather year-round. The best water clarity is December–March. The most availability (and best prices) is April–May and September–October. Rain is brief and tropical — never a reason not to go.

Peak Season — Best Conditions December – March

Driest months. Best turquoise water clarity in the Rosario Islands (10–15m visibility). Most reliable boat tours. Book Capri Beach Club, Paue, and Bora Bora Beach Club 2–3 weeks ahead.

Second Peak July – August

Colombian summer vacation. High demand, excellent weather. Similar advance booking requirements as December–March. Barú on weekdays to avoid weekend crowd peaks.

Shoulder Season — Best Value April – June

Short afternoon tropical showers — nothing that affects an island day. Fewer tourists, more availability, same water and sun. 5–7 days advance booking is usually enough.

Low Season — Easiest Booking September – November

Quietest months. Lowest demand. Most flexibility on dates. Rain is short and tropical — Cartagena almost never has full rainy days. Best availability at the most popular clubs.

Antoni's Honest Take on Cartagena Weather

Cartagena is one of the sunniest cities in Colombia — 28–32°C almost every day of the year. When people say "rainy season," they mean short afternoon tropical showers that last 30–60 minutes, not all-day rain.

I have never had to cancel an island trip because of weather. The bigger concern is sunscreen, not rain. What matters most is booking early enough to get your first choice of club.

How CDT Prices Compare to Booking Direct

Direct Answer

CDT prices are 10–15% below direct operator rates. Operators quote in Colombian pesos (COP) — most international travelers overpay on conversion. CDT quotes in USD, transparently, with no hidden fees.

A common assumption: booking directly with the beach club saves money. In practice, the opposite is often true. Operators set their dollar-equivalent prices assuming the tourist will convert at a disadvantaged rate. CDT negotiates in volume and passes the saving directly.

Club Operator direct (COP approx.) CDT price (USD) What you also get with CDT
Capri Beach Club Classic COP ~580,000 (~$140+ USD at tourist rate) $125 USD Confirmation in 2 hrs · Antoni's Tip · Cancellation policy
San Pedro de Majagua Silver COP ~540,000 (~$130+ USD at tourist rate) $124 USD (fees incl.) Zero cash at pier · Full logistics included
Bora Bora Beach Club Area COP ~470,000 (~$115+ USD at tourist rate) $109 USD English support · Gate number · What to bring list
Makani Luxury Beach Club Standard COP ~360,000 (~$87+ USD at tourist rate) $79 USD Multiple departure time options · Spa slot advice
Isla Bela Express COP ~340,000 (~$82+ USD at tourist rate) $79 USD Easiest first-timer experience · No surprises

*COP rates based on typical tourist-facing operator pricing. Exchange rate fluctuates — USD pricing with CDT eliminates this variable entirely.

Private Boat vs Beach Club — Which Is Right for Your Group?

Direct Answer

For groups under 6: beach club day pass is more cost-effective. For groups of 6+: a private boat becomes competitive in price and gives full flexibility — multiple islands, Isla Cholon optional, your schedule, your music. CDT arranges custom plans with authorized beach club lunch access included.

Beach Club Day Pass

Everything organized for you
Assigned lounger, included lunch
Most cost-effective for 1–5 people
Fixed schedule, predictable day
One destination only
Fixed return 3–4 PM (Rosario)

Private Boat Rental

Multiple island stops
Your music, your schedule
Isla Cholon floating party optional
Best for groups 6+ and celebrations
Isla Amores private island option
Higher cost for small groups

Antoni's Tip — Private Island Option

For groups of 8 people wanting a private island experience: Isla Amores in the Rosario Islands is the most complete option near Cartagena — full private island rental from COP $450,000 per person (~$110 USD). Both available exclusively through CDT — contact us via WhatsApp to plan.
